Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has described the simultaneous commencement of Ramadan and Lent this year as meaningful, carrying a vital message for the nation.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja, he extended his congratulations to Muslim and Christian communities across the country as they begin their respective fasting periods.
The statement was disseminated by his Media and Communications Strategy Special Adviser, Mr. Abimbola Tooki.
Yilwatda emphasized the importance of these overlapping periods as significant times of fasting, reflection, sacrifice, and spiritual renewal for Nigerians of both faiths.
He noted that the coinciding of Ramadan and Lent is not only instructive but also a powerful symbol for the nation, signifying a communal message.
“It serves as a divine reminder that Nigerians are united as one people, bonded by a shared future, regardless of religious differences. Peaceful coexistence is not merely desirable but vital for our national progress and stability,” stated Yilwatda.
He further remarked that both Ramadan and Lent promote shared virtues such as discipline, compassion, humility, love for one another, and service to humanity.
The APC chairman encouraged Nigerians to let these common values influence their everyday interactions, fostering stronger ties between Muslims and Christians and dispelling any feelings of suspicion, hatred, or division.
Yilwatda appealed to Nigerians to utilize this sacred time to fervently pray for the nation and for President Bola Tinubu's administration, which is engaged in extensive reforms designed to stabilize and improve the economy and society.
“With genuine prayers, a commitment to unity, patience, and collective sacrifice, we can ensure these reforms are fruitful and provide lasting solutions to our economic and social issues,” he expressed.
He voiced hope that this season would invigorate hope, strengthen faith, and reinforce Nigeria's collective dedication to peace, unity, and national advancement.
Lastly, he prayed that Allah accepts the fasts, supplications, and acts of charity of all Muslims and wished Christians a fulfilling Lenten period. Yilwatda expressed his belief that, united as one people under God's guidance, Nigeria will emerge more resilient, unified, and prosperous.
