Agbu Kefas, the current governor of Taraba State, has now officially aligned himself with the All Progressives Congress (APC). This move increases the number of state governors under the APC banner to thirty.

The APC had previously rescheduled a reception intended for Governor Kefas, originally planned in honour of members of the armed forces and citizens who had fallen victim to terrorist attacks in November 2025.

Governor Kefas was formally inducted into the APC on Saturday, January 31st, during a ceremony held in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State. The National Chairman of the APC, Nentawe Yilwatda, presented the party's flag to the governor, marking his official position as the party's leader in Taraba State.

Yilwatda commented that Kefas's departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was both well-timed and commendable, suggesting it would enable Taraba State to benefit from federal initiatives and support under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

"The APC is the party governing at the federal level, and within our party, there are numerous opportunities," Yilwatda stated. "We welcome any Nigerian who wishes to join the APC. In the APC, all states and all citizens are treated with equality, and Taraba holds the same importance as any other state governed by the APC."

Contributing to the event, the APC National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, expressed that the governor's reception into the party was a moment of shared happiness for APC members.

"On behalf of the national working committee, we are delighted to welcome the governor of Taraba State into our esteemed party," Basiru remarked. He further emphasized that the APC has evolved into Africa's largest political party, boasting a presence across the nation. "The APC has become the largest party, and our influence extends further than that of many nations globally," he added.

Addressing the attendees, Governor Kefas explained that his decision to join the APC was motivated by strategic planning for the future of Taraba State. "Today, I stand before you not to cause a stir, but to bring about tangible change; not for political games, but to lead with a clear purpose," he said. Kefas highlighted that this transition was not about his personal political security but about accelerating the state's development.

"While some may label this as defection, I define it as a mission-driven action," he asserted. "My focus is not on political survival; it is on advancing Taraba State. We are joining the APC to reinforce and effectively implement our programmes with an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of the people of Taraba State."
