Team TotalEnergies Excels at NOGIG 2026, Secures Five Gold and Ten Bronze Medals

TotalEnergies achieved an outstanding performance at the 20th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games, finishing fourth overall with five gold medals and ten bronze medals, marking a notable ascent from their sixth place position at the previous edition in 2024.

The 20th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games (NOGIG 2026) saw Team TotalEnergies deliver a remarkable performance, securing a total of five gold medals and ten bronze medals, which placed them fourth on the overall medals table. This achievement is a significant improvement from their sixth place result in the 19th edition held in 2024.

The sporting event, which began on February 8 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, concluded with a vibrant awards ceremony on Saturday, February 14, celebrating the spirit of unity, resilience, and sportsmanship in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) claimed the title of overall champions with a total of 52 medals, comprising 20 gold, 16 silver, and 16 bronze. The defending champions, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), secured the second position with 49 medals, while the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) followed closely in third place with five gold, eight silver, and five bronze medals.

Key contributors to TotalEnergies' medal success included Adesua Adewole, who triumphed in women's golf, and Nonye Finecountry, who excelled in the 8Ball Pool competition. Furthermore, seasoned athlete Ejehi Effiong made a notable mark by securing two gold medals in lawn tennis and squash, alongside a couple of bronze finishes in other events.

TotalEnergies also distinguished itself in team sports, with their Scrabble team comprising Reni Orioke, Ugonma Dennis Akano, Godfrey Ojile, and Emmanuel Egbele clinching an additional gold medal, highlighting the company’s versatility across various sporting activities.

In addition to their gold medal achievements, the team garnered bronze in multiple categories including men's basketball, badminton, women's 100m and 200m athletics, men’s chess, and women's singles and doubles tennis.

Team TotalEnergies, led by the Organising Committee Chairman Henry Ogufere, showcased the company's core value of “Standing Together” throughout the event. This ethos was further emphasized by TotalEnergies’ Country Chair in Nigeria, Mathieu Bouyer, who encouraged the athletes to compete with a sense of pride and unity.

Bouyer emphasized, “While victory is important, the more significant accomplishment is the unity and shared experiences fostered through sports,” during his goodwill address at the closing ceremony. His Special Adviser, Cajetan Onu, represented him at the event, which also saw participation from members of the People and Talent Management (PTM) team, who hosted a dinner to honor the athletes.

Moreover, Team TotalEnergies left an indelible impression on attendees and competitors alike with their spirited march past and enthusiastic fan support. The preliminary events for NOGIG 2026 took place in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, from January 12 to 17 before transitioning to the final phase in Abuja.

Suleiman Suleiman, the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, praised the participating teams for their discipline and sportsmanship, asserting that the Games successfully fulfilled their goal of reinforcing camaraderie, promoting fitness, and fostering healthy competition within the oil and gas industry.
