A 23-year-old woman from Britain was fatally shot by her father after a heated disagreement about Donald Trump, as revealed during an inquest.
Lucy Harrison, a fashion buyer from Warrington in Cheshire, was visiting her father, Kris Harrison, at his residence in Prosper, Texas, in January 2025.
Her boyfriend, Sam Littler, who accompanied her, reported in Cheshire Coroner's Court that Lucy frequently felt distressed when her father discussed his firearm ownership.
On the morning of January 10, the day they were supposed to return home, a quarrel erupted between Ms. Harrison and her father concerning accusations of sexual assault against Trump.
Mr. Littler recounted, "Kris and Lucy had quite a significant argument, which resulted in Lucy running upstairs, visibly upset."
He mentioned that Lucy posed a question to her father regarding how he would react if she were sexually assaulted.
Kris Harrison responded that he would not be very affected as he had two other daughters who lived with him.
Approximately half an hour before their departure for the airport, Mr. Harrison reportedly took his daughter by the hand and led her into his ground- floor bedroom. Moments later, Mr. Littler heard a loud noise and then Mr. Harrison began yelling for his wife, Heather.
"When I rushed into the room, Lucy was lying on the floor near the bathroom entrance while Kris was screaming incoherently," Mr. Littler described.
The inquiry also disclosed that Mr. Harrison previously sought treatment for alcohol dependency.
Although he did not attend the hearing himself, his representative Ana Samuel provided a statement on his behalf.
According to Mr. Harrison's account, he and Lucy had been viewing a news segment about gun crime when he revealed his ownership of a firearm and asked if she wanted to see it.
They proceeded to the bedroom where he intended to show her a Glock 9mm semi- automatic pistol that he stored in the nightstand.
Harrison stated he acquired the gun a few years prior for a sense of safety for his family and denied any previous discussions about it with his daughter.
As he lifted the firearm to showcase it, he suddenly heard a loud noise and did not comprehend what had transpired as Lucy collapsed immediately.
He admitted he could not remember if his finger was on the trigger at the time of the incident. He acknowledged having struggled with alcohol in the past and indicated he "briefly lapsed" on the day of his daughter's death due to emotional distress.
A police officer by the name of Luciana Escalera, whose testimony was read during the inquest, reported detecting the odor of alcohol on Mr. Harrison after he was called to the residence post-shooting.
Surveillance footage revealed that Mr. Harrison had purchased two cartons of Chardonnay shortly before 1 PM CST.
Ana Samuel, representing Mr. Harrison, requested at the beginning of the proceedings for coroner Jacqueline Devonish to withdraw from the case, claiming a reasonable observer might view her as biased.
In response, Lois Norris, representing Lucy Harrison's mother Jane Coates, characterized the request as an "ambush" orchestrated by Mr. Harrison's legal team.
Norris asserted that Kris Harrison was the only individual in the room who shot Lucy Harrison.
Coroner Devonish dismissed the application to recuse herself.
Afterward, Mr. Harrison, through his legal representatives, expressed that he "fully accepted" the repercussions of his actions.
He stated, "Not a day passes without me feeling the burden of that loss, a burden I will carry for the rest of my life."
Ms. Coates described her daughter, who worked as a buyer for the fashion brand Boohoo, as a vibrant individual full of life.
She remarked, "She was caring, passionate, and enjoyed meaningful debates on topics that mattered to her."
The inquest has been suspended until Wednesday, February 11, when the coroner is anticipated to deliver her findings.
