Thomas Partey, the ex-midfielder for Arsenal, is preparing to contest two fresh charges of r@pe, as disclosed in a recent court session where he was not present.
The 32-year-old has been accused of r@ping a woman during a date in December 2020, with these allegations coming to light after he was charged last month with two counts of r@pe.
During the preliminary hearing at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Friday, Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikram handled the initial proceedings, while Partey was absent. His legal representative, Emma Fenn, confirmed his intention to plead not guilty to both charges.
Last year, Partey was charged with five counts of r@pe concerning two women and s£xual ass@ult allegations involving another alleged victim, as part of an investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
He had already pleaded not guilty to all previous charges that relate to incidents from 2021 and 2022 and is scheduled for a trial at Southwark Crown Court in November.
The new r@pe charges were revealed during the court hearing, with prosecutor Arabella MacDonald stating, “Mr. Partey faces two additional charges of r@pe dating back to December 2020. The complainant came forward following the public disclosure of Mr. Partey’s other cases.”
Judge Ikram has referred the two new allegations to the crown court for a hearing set for April 10.
The Ghanaian midfielder, currently playing for Villarreal in Spain, is accused of committing the alleged r@pe in London.
Partey previously resided in Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, and made a transfer to Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in 2020 for an estimated £45 million, leaving the club in June last year to join Villarreal.
Having represented Ghana more than 50 times, Partey participated in both the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.
He was granted bail on Friday with the stipulation that he does not make contact with the alleged victim. Partey is anticipated to be present at the next court hearing in April.
