Former Arsenal footballer Thomas Partey is now facing two new charges of rape.
The Ghanaian player recently appeared in court, where he denied allegations of raping two women and sexually assaulting a third individual.
A trial for these serious allegations is set to take place in November.
In a statement released this morning, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) disclosed that the two additional charges stem from a separate report of past offenses dating back to 2020, as well as findings from a recent Metropolitan Police investigation.
The CPS indicated that the fresh allegations were first brought to light in August of last year.
The incidents in question reportedly occurred during 2021 and 2022, a time when the 32-year-old was a prominent player for Arsenal.
Partey's charges were filed merely four days after he left the London club following his contract's expiration in June.
He is currently signed with Villarreal in Spain. His bail conditions allow him to continue playing; however, he must inform the police of any international travel plans at least a day in advance and is prohibited from contacting the alleged victims.
A representative for the CPS noted: 'Mr. Partey is charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault involving allegations from three women concerning events that transpired between 2021 and 2022.'
These recent charges relate to a different report of historical crimes from 2020 involving an additional woman, arising from a new inquiry by the Metropolitan Police. The CPS further stated that these new allegations were first reported in August 2025.
Partey is scheduled to make an appearance at Westminster Magistrates' Court on March 13th for an initial hearing.
Honor Barber, co-founder of a supporters' group for Arsenal, expressed outrage at the club's support for a player now facing numerous charges.
She stated, 'Arsenal was aware of the ongoing investigations into Thomas Partey and continued to field him regularly.' She conveyed that fans were dismayed by the message this sends, noting how Partey was still recognized as an Arsenal player even on the day the charges were announced. 'It is unacceptable that Mikel Arteta and Arsenal's management prioritized playing him throughout this investigation.'
Additionally, she reiterated the supporters' call for transparency from Arteta and the club’s management regarding their policies for players and staff.
The initial investigation into these allegations started in 2022, with Partey maintaining his not guilty plea throughout the process.
