President Bola Tinubu has conveyed his heartfelt condolences regarding the death of Imam Abdullahi Abubakar, the Chief Imam of Nghar village located in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, who passed away at the age of 92.
Imam Abubakar rose to prominence in both national and international circles in 2018 when he bravely risked his life to shelter over 200 Christians amid violent communal strife in Plateau State. In a statement released on Saturday by his Information and Strategy Advisor, Bayo Onanuga, the President hailed the late Imam as an exceptionally courageous religious figure whose life demonstrated faith, compassion, and respect for human dignity.
Tinubu remarked that during a period when ethnic and religious discord threatened societal peace, Imam Abubakar opted for harmony, humanity, and moral conviction instead of succumbing to fear and self-preservation.
The President emphasized that the Imam's choice to safeguard vulnerable individuals, despite facing severe personal danger, highlighted the genuine essence of faith and delivered a significant moral lesson that exceeds mere sermons or teachings.
He added that the cleric’s remarkable bravery garnered him recognition both locally and globally, underscoring universal admiration for his dedication to fostering peaceful coexistence and interfaith understanding.
Tinubu encouraged religious and community leaders throughout the nation to follow Imam Abubakar's path by fostering tolerance, mutual respect, and unity among individuals from diverse backgrounds.
The President prayed for the peace of the Imam’s soul and asked for God's blessings upon him for his courageous acts, kindness, and a lifetime of service to humanity.
