French club Olympique de Marseille has confirmed the acquisition of Nigerian international Tochukwu Nnadi from Belgian team SV Zulte Waregem. This move illustrates the club's increasing interest in nurturing young African football talent.
At the age of 22, Nnadi is swiftly establishing himself as one of Nigeria's most promising prospects. His football journey began in Ihiagwa, Imo State, where he was born on June 30, 2003. Nnadi commenced his career with Campos FC before honing his skills at the Madenat Alamal Football Academy in Dubai. This unconventional choice played a pivotal role in his pathway to European football.
Nnadi made his professional debut in August 2021 after signing with Bulgarian club Botev Plovdiv, following a successful trial. He played his first league match on April 3, 2022, against the dominant Ludogorets, marking a significant milestone in his career. At Botev, he developed into a reliable midfielder known for his calmness on the ball and his mature defensive skills.
The player gained international recognition during the 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup, where he was a key figure in Nigeria’s squad. Nnadi's excellent performances contributed to notable victories over footballing giants Italy and Argentina, highlighting his tactical acumen, physical endurance, and maturity at the junior level.
In January 2024, he took a substantial leap by transferring to SV Zulte Waregem in Belgium, where he adapted to the rigorous physicality and strategies of Belgian football. His performance there made him one of the squad's central midfielders, garnering interest from various clubs across Europe.
Moreover, after showcasing his skills with the U-20 national team, Nnadi earned his first call-up to Nigeria's senior side for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco. He made his debut for the Super Eagles, reflecting his evolution from a budding talent to an established international player.
Now with Olympique de Marseille, Nnadi symbolizes the club's focus on investing in youthful, energetic, and versatile players. For Nigeria, he represents a burgeoning generation of midfielders, skilled both technically and tactically and seasoned through diverse footballing experiences.
Though his career is still unfolding, Tochukwu Nnadi’s transition from Ihiagwa to Stade Vélodrome signifies not just a player’s career progression but also a declaration of ambition from a nation that continues to deliver top-tier talent to Europe’s elite leagues.
