Tragic House Fire Claims Lives of Sports Journalist and Her Children in Minnesota

Jessi Pierce, a journalist known for her coverage of NHL hockey, and her three children have died following a house fire in Minnesota.

The devastating incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, March 22, around 5:30 AM, at their residence in White Bear Lake.

The NHL confirmed the deaths of 37-year-old Jessi and her children, Hudson, Cayden, and Avery, in a statement issued on Sunday.

Jessi was a reporter for NHL.com, covering the Minnesota Wild, and she previously contributed to outlets such as The Athletic, US Hockey, Minnesota Hockey Journal, and Massachusetts Hockey.

In their message, the NHL expressed, "The entire National Hockey League family sends our prayers and deepest condolences to the Pierce family on the passing of Jessi Pierce and her three young children. Jessi loved our game and was a valued member of the NHL.com team for a decade. We will miss her terribly."

The Minnesota Wild organization also released a tribute for the sports writer, who co-hosted a podcast named Bardown Beauties. They mourned, "The Minnesota Wild organization is heartbroken by the tragic loss of Jessi Pierce and her children. Jessi was a kind, compassionate person who deeply cared about her family and those around her."

They further remarked, "She served as a dedicated ambassador for the game of hockey during her time covering the Wild and the NHL. Jessi and her children will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to their family, friends, and all who knew and loved them."

Firefighters arrived at the house on Richard Avenue and discovered Jessi and her children, along with a dog, inside the premises.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is currently ongoing.

Michael Russo, a colleague from The Athletic, reached out to express his condolences to Jessi's husband, Mike.

He described Jessi as "the most vibrant person – the life of the party, always with a smile on her face, always bringing a passion to every article, podcast, and interview she did."
