The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully rescued two men believed to be involved in 'one chance' robbery from an agitated mob in Abuja, responding swiftly to a distress alert.

The police reported that the event took place on January 29, 2026, at around 11:00 a.m., when officers from the Utako Police Division were informed about a violent crowd detaining and assaulting two suspects. Officers were promptly dispatched to the location and managed to extract the suspects from the mob's grasp.

Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the FCT Police Command, identified the apprehended individuals as Kefas Akaye and Uya Ugwowere.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects are part of a four-man gang reportedly involved in 'one chance' robbery schemes within the Federal Capital Territory.

According to Adeh, the gang members commonly travel from Uke in Nasarawa State to execute their criminal plans in the FCT.

"Further investigations revealed that two other accomplices, referred to as Mary and Aisha, fled during the chaos. Law enforcement is actively pursuing them for capture," she stated.

The FCT Police Command acknowledged the vigilance of local residents while strongly denouncing the practice of jungle justice and mob attacks. They cautioned that lynching or attacking suspects may result in the loss of innocent lives, harm essential evidence, and obstruct legitimate investigations, undermining the justice system.

Residents were urged to remain calm and to report any suspicious activities to their nearest police station or to contact the FCT Police Command through their emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08028940883.

The command reiterated its dedication to maintaining the safety of the public and ensuring that criminal elements are brought to justice through lawful means.
