UK Police Set to Arraign Teenager in Connection with British-Nigerian Youth's Murder

The Metropolitan Police has confirmed that a 16-year-old boy, suspected of involvement in the death of Eghosa Ogbebor, a British-Nigerian teenager, is scheduled to appear before a magistrates’ court. The suspect, whose identity is being withheld due to legal restrictions, has been formally charged with Ogbebor's murder as of Friday, April 10.

According to a statement released by the police on Friday evening, the charges stem from the shooting incident that claimed the life of 14-year-old Ogbebor in the Woolwich area of London. Authorities were alerted to the shooting on April 2 at approximately 4pm. Despite efforts by medical personnel to save the young victim, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The police statement further detailed that the 16-year-old, residing in Romford, was initially apprehended on April 4. However, he was released on bail before being re-arrested on April 9, leading to the murder charge.

"A boy has been charged with murder over the shooting of 14-year-old Eghosa Ogbebor in Woolwich," the police statement read. "The 16-year-old, of Romford, was charged with murder on Friday, 10 April, and will appear at Thames Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, 11 April. He was first arrested on Saturday, 4 April and released on bail. He was re-arrested on Thursday, 9 April."

The investigation has involved several other arrests. Three teenagers and an 18-year-old man, initially arrested on April 3, have been released on bail while inquiries continue. Additionally, another 16-year-old was apprehended on suspicion of murder on April 10 and remains in custody. Earlier, on April 4, a 16-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of murder in Woolwich, and a 46-year-old man was detained for allegedly assisting an offender. All three were subsequently released on bail, according to police reports. The investigation into Eghosa Ogbebor's death is ongoing.
