The University of Lagos (UNILAG) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has officially put an end to the indefinite strike action that was initiated on Tuesday.
This suspension of the strike is attributed to the involvement of the union's national leadership, as indicated in a statement released by the chairperson of the UNILAG chapter, Professor Idou Keinde.
Furthermore, the university's management has expressed its willingness to engage in discussions with the union to tackle the issues raised during the strike.
ASUU has confirmed that these dialogues are indeed underway with the university administration.
In a statement, the union urged its members to respect the directions from the national leadership and to resume their normal activities while the negotiations continue.
The strike had been prompted by grievances regarding alleged deductions from salaries for January and February, along with delays in the payment of academic allowances and the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA).
Both allowances were recently adjusted upward following a December agreement between the federal government and the union, which took effect in January.
