The Minister revealed this in a televised address broadcast across various national radio and television platforms on Thursday, during which he also declared a movement restriction commencing at 8 PM on Friday and continuing until 6 PM on Saturday.

Wike encouraged citizens in the FCT to actively participate in the elections by casting their votes for their preferred candidates.

"On Saturday, February 21, we will all have a significant chance to influence the future of our esteemed Federal Capital Territory. The election of either new or incumbent Chairmen and Councillors for the six Area Councils marks an important moment, and I urge you to come out in large numbers to exercise your voting rights," he stated in the broadcast.

He further emphasized the need for deliberate and responsible participation at the polls: "As we engage in our democratic right, let's conduct ourselves in an orderly and lawful manner. Respect for the rules, for one another, and the election results is paramount. We must demonstrate to the world that we are a mature and responsible electorate capable of upholding dignity and decorum."

Additionally, Wike indicated that, with the consent of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Friday, February 20, 2026, has been officially designated as a work- free day to facilitate residents' travels back to their communities ahead of the elections.

"Likewise, the President has sanctioned the restriction of movement within the FCT from 8 PM on February 20 to 6 PM on February 21, 2026. Accordingly, all security personnel are instructed to strictly enforce this order," he noted.

Wike expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for enacting the Electoral Act Amendment Bill 2026, which he characterized as a commitment to fortifying democratic institutions and ensuring elections that are free, fair, and transparent.

"Democracy is an ongoing journey influenced by the evolving democratic landscape. Nonetheless, we shall continue to enhance it through the regular reassessment of the Electoral Act aimed at strengthening our democratic framework.

"To all residents of the FCT, I encourage you to make your voices count. Participate actively on Saturday, February 21, 2026, and select the candidates you deem fit.

"As an administration, our aspiration is that the elections will bring forth leaders of quality who will significantly contribute to the advancement, peace, and prosperity of the FCT.

"Let’s unite to establish a brighter future for ourselves, our children, and our territory."
