Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has directed contractors to clear waste from satellite towns within three days, threatening to terminate their contracts if they fail to comply.

The ultimatum was issued following an inspection of ongoing road projects in Karu, Bwari, Kubwa, and the Apo-Karshi road corridor in Abuja on Friday.

He instructed Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, the Coordinator of the FCT Satellite Towns Development Department, to ensure adherence to this order.

Refuse littered and spilling over the road, blocking passage in Kurudu, Abuja.

During the inspection, the minister expressed worry over the large accumulations of garbage along the Orozo-Apo-Karshi road.

“If the refuse remains by Monday or Tuesday, the contractor's job will be terminated,” he declared.

“This situation is intolerable and embarrassing. These locations are no longer mere villages; they have developed significantly, and such conditions are unacceptable,” he added.

Wike reassured the community members that all waste, especially in satellite towns, would be removed to enhance environmental cleanliness.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Wike had previously warned newly engaged waste collection contractors on November 15, 2025, that incompetence and political favoritism would not be tolerated by the FCT Administration.

He pointed out that waste management is a critical challenge for the capital, mainly due to the previous providers' insincerity and inability.

The minister insisted that contractors need to demonstrate their capability rather than relying on connections, stating, “Perform your duties and receive your compensation. Failure to fulfill your obligations will result in termination of your contract.”
