Xabi Alonso, the football manager, allegedly criticized his squad for displaying behavior akin to that of a 'nursery' during a training session at Real Madrid, leading to a significant downturn in his tenure.
According to reports, the manager had a major outburst directed at his players in early November, at a time when tensions were already near a boiling point, just two months prior to his eventual firing.
Alonso was dismissed from his position on Monday, after only seven months at the helm, amidst speculation regarding friction within the locker room.
The Spanish publication MARCA has indicated that Alonso had begun to consider leaving Madrid as early as November when he made his comments.
This dramatic incident is described as a 'cry of desperation, exhaustion, and almost a sense of tedium' as he became frustrated with players not adhering to his strategic directives. Alonso struggled to implement the intense pressing style that had previously characterized his team at Bayer Leverkusen.
Additionally, reports from MARCA suggest that there was a growing interest in Alvaro Arbeloa within the team long before he was announced as Alonso’s replacement.
Arbeloa had been managing Madrid's B team and was frequently involved in senior training sessions.
Alonso's dismissal occurred just days after a 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, marking a mere seven months into his managerial stint.
The 44-year-old experienced mounting pressure due to rumors of discord with several players and a perceived disconnect with club executives regarding tactical approaches.
