The Yobe State Police Command has successfully apprehended four individuals accused of kidnapping 35-year-old Abdulhamid Garba, in addition to recovering a Toyota Prado SUV utilized in the act.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, shared the news with reporters in Damaturu, emphasizing the commitment of the Command to intelligence-led policing.

According to him, the suspects were captured by operatives from the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters, who acted on reliable intelligence on February 16, 2026, at approximately 10:30 PM.

As stated by the PPRO, the suspects were detained after exhibiting suspicious behavior with their vehicle amidst the Potiskum area, culminating in the successful rescue of the victim.

Initial investigations indicated that Abdulhamid Garba, a resident of the Nayi-Nawa quarters in Damaturu, was taken by individuals posing as law enforcement agents.

The perpetrators reportedly made false accusations related to corruption and financial misconduct against Garba as a means to illegally detain him, intimidate him, and extort money before forcibly moving him towards Potiskum in a hired vehicle.

SP Abdulkarim identified the alleged ringleader as Mohammed Usman (32), who colluded with Kabiru Ibrahim Umar (42), Idriss Abdullahi Zakaria (27), and Matthew Obata (21).

He noted, "The suspects are known for defrauding unsuspecting citizens, especially traders, by masquerading as security personnel. All claimed to be employees of Transworld Private Security Guard based in Kano," the PPRO remarked.
