Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, is spearheading a review of the salary framework for health workers as part of a broader strategy to revitalize medical services within the state. This policy shift is intended to foster better working environments, uplift the spirits of healthcare personnel, and elevate the overall quality of healthcare provided.
To guide this critical process, the governor has established a dedicated committee tasked with formulating a compensation plan that is both equitable and competitive for medical practitioners.
The committee's chairman, Dr. Usman Shehu Hassan, stated that the initiative is designed to demonstrate appreciation for the vital role of health workers and to fortify the healthcare infrastructure.
Hassan emphasized that the objective is to ensure that caregivers receive adequate support, highlighting that "this is about respect and dignity."
He further revealed that the committee has undertaken study visits to Kano and Jigawa States to examine their existing salary systems for healthcare staff.
"We are meticulously analysing these models to inform revisions and improvements to Zamfara's own remuneration structure," he explained.
Hassan added that insights gained from these visits will be adapted to address the specific requirements of Zamfara State.
Government officials have indicated that the anticipated salary adjustment is expected to mitigate the outflow of healthcare professionals from the state and significantly enhance the quality of care offered in hospitals and clinics.
The state administration has characterized this undertaking as a crucial long- term investment in the health sector.
"By prioritizing the well-being of its healthcare workforce, Zamfara intends to cultivate a more dependable healthcare system where staff feel valued and patients consistently receive attentive care," a statement from the government read.
