25-Year-Old Man Detained with Firearm in Edo State

Operatives from the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) apprehended a 25-year-old man named Umar Abdullahi for carrying a firearm.

The suspect was detained at approximately 2 am at Akara Junction located in the Aduwawa region, close to Benin City, within the Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area.

Reports indicate that Abdullahi had traveled from Bauchi State to Benin City but could not state a clear destination, leading to suspicions from the patrol officers of the ESSC who then stopped him for questioning.

Sources reveal that Abdullahi was unable to provide a satisfactory reason for being in the area. A subsequent search yielded the discovery of a locally made, cut-to-size firearm in his belongings.

The Deputy Commander of Operations for the Corps, Richard Balogun, validated the incident and confirmed the recovery of the weapon.

Following the arrest, Balogun stated that Abdullahi has been transferred to the police for further investigation and potential prosecution.
