A grieving father has asked authorities to euthanize the family dog and its puppies following a horrific incident where his teenage daughter was mauled to death by the pet. The young woman, identified as Jamie-Lea, 19, was discovered deceased at her home on Friday evening, April 10.
She was found on the floor with a severe bite wound to her neck, the result of an attack by the family dog, named Shy.
Emergency services were summoned to the family residence in Leaden Roding, near Dunmow, Essex, around 10:45 pm. Despite the urgent efforts of paramedics, the teenager was declared dead at the location.
Jack Biscoe, the 37-year-old father, reportedly pleaded with police officers who arrived and took possession of the female Lurcher-cross dog to have it destroyed immediately. He expressed his distress, stating to The Sun, "I just said to them, 'please just put her down.' I don't want to see her ever again – I just don't think that dog should live anymore."
Essex Police confirmed on Sunday, April 12, that investigations are ongoing to definitively identify Shy's breed. Authorities are also conducting forensic examinations to confirm her role in the fatal assault. Jack insisted, "We know that she did. She was the one that was covered in blood and she attacked me."
The victim's father also called for her two 18-month-old puppies, Bella and Mouse, who are not believed to have participated in the attack, to be put down. He explained his reasoning: "Those dogs have seen too much. They need to be put down in my opinion. I don't want them to live in this world now. Even though the youngsters didn't do anything, they've seen too much and I don't think they could ever be placed with a family again. They could never possibly be rehomed after that situation. I think the best thing for them would be to put them to sleep."
Jack, who acquired Shy as a puppy at seven weeks old, indicated that there had been no prior signs of aggression from the dog. He described her as the "softest dog" with no history of biting or aggressive behavior.
During his attempt to assist his daughter, who had collapsed on the floor, Jack himself was attacked by Shy. The dog inflicted puncture wounds on his arms and bit off a portion of his ear, necessitating reconstructive surgery.
The devastated father further commented, "My daughter was not killed by an XL Bully, she was killed by a genuine family dog. I thought I could trust that dog with my life and it took my daughter's life. She was my daughter's best friend and she still killed her. I lost my entire life on Friday when my daughter was murdered by another member of my family. Witnessing the horror and destruction it has caused me, it’s not worth it. Treat them as dogs, give them their beds, be careful."
Jack Biscoe was apprehended on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury leading to death. He was subsequently released on bail on Saturday night, April 11.
