Authorities in Rivers State have taken a 24-year-old individual into custody, accusing him of involvement in kidnapping and rape.

The spokesperson for the command, ASP Blessing Agabe, announced the arrest in Port Harcourt, stating it followed a complaint from a young woman.

According to Agabe, the victim reported being transported to a bush in Ulakwo, located within the Etche Local Government Area, where she was allegedly subjected to assault, rape, and had her personal items taken.

The victim was reportedly released by her captor, and she came forward with her report on Saturday.

Agabe mentioned that the police command initiated an investigation upon receiving the report, employing advanced technological methods.

"This diligent work led to the apprehension of the suspect, who subsequently admitted to the commission of the alleged offenses," she stated.

Recovered from the suspect were several items, including a mobile phone, a wig believed to belong to the victim, and other valuables, Agabe added.

She further indicated that efforts are underway to locate and apprehend other individuals believed to be part of the gang. The arrested suspect is expected to face charges in court once the investigation is complete, according to NAN.

In a related advisory, Agabe cautioned the public to exercise vigilance when interacting with unknown individuals online. She strongly advised against arranging meetings with strangers in secluded areas.

"It is crucial to inform friends and family about your travel plans, confirm the identity of individuals before meeting them, and promptly report any suspicious activities to the police," she advised. (NAN)
