A video capturing a tense moment between Abia State Governor Alex Otti and journalist Chika Nwabueze during a media briefing has gone viral on social media.
In the session, Nwabueze requested that the governor provide verifiable evidence demonstrating that his administration has produced tangible economic benefits in the state beyond just improvements in road infrastructure since he took office in May 2023.
Governor Otti appeared vexed by this inquiry, expressing that it was the journalist's responsibility to have that data and formulate questions accordingly.
He remarked, "You haven't contributed anything. Do you reside in Abia? If you live in Umuahia, then you are the one who should present the data. The emphasis here is that this media chat is serious; we are not here to appease opposition. One cannot come to a media chat and demand that I supply data regarding the measurable impact and projects happening in your resident state. It shows irresponsibility. Just because we allow the floor open for inquiries doesn’t imply that individuals ought to act foolishly. We need to treat this matter seriously." Otti asserted.
The exchange has generated a flurry of reactions online as observers weigh in on the governor's remarks.
A video of the encounter can be viewed below.
