Adolphus Wabara, a former Senate President and the current Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed confidence that the party will endure and thrive despite its current challenges.
While addressing concerns regarding PDP's stability, which has been impacted by prolonged internal leadership disputes, Wabara affirmed the party's resilience and its preparations for future electoral contests.
During the commencement of the party's online membership registration event held in Umuahia, Abia State, he revealed that concerted efforts are being made to tackle the issues that have troubled the party.
The event included a stakeholders' meeting as well as the inauguration of a Local Government Caretaker Committee under the leadership of Kabiru Tanimu Turaki’s National Working Committee (NWC).
Wabara was visibly impressed by the number of party supporters present at the gathering, stating emphatically, “the PDP can never die.”
He commended Hon. Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, the Chairman of the Abia PDP Caretaker Committee, for exhibiting evident leadership skills in his first month and advised him and his committee to steer clear of past mistakes related to godfatherism.
The PDP's BoT chairman stressed that rebuilding the party would be more effective if leaders promote equal opportunities among all members. He called for widespread registration across the state.
In related developments, PDP reiterated its commitment to reconciliation within the party and plans to field candidates for all positions in the upcoming 2027 general elections, including the presidency. Ini Ememobong, the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, provided updates on efforts aimed at reconciling divided factions within the party.
This announcement came just a day after the faction led by Nyesom Wike scheduled presidential primaries for May 25, indicating their openness to reconciliation.
However, a major obstacle to this reconciliation lies in the Wike faction's support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election, while the mainstream of the party is determined to nominate its own presidential candidate.
Ememobong, speaking on Arise News’ morning show, expressed hope that a consensus could be reached but insisted that PDP would ensure candidates are presented at all levels in the upcoming elections.
He acknowledged that while reconciliation might appear challenging given the current dynamics, he believed that the outcome would clarify perceptions of hope versus delusion.
“Leaders are meant to listen to their followers,
