Bukayo Saka, a prominent football player for Arsenal and the England national team, has gained significant attention online after admitting that he had never heard of international music sensation Celine Dion during a casual discussion with Nigerian Grammy-winning artist Tems.
In the inaugural episode of "The Link Up," a new series by Arsenal Football Club, Saka was engaging in a light-hearted chat with Tems, who was sharing insights on the artists that impacted her music career. When she brought up Celine Dion, Saka, laughing, responded with surprise, saying, "I don’t know who that is."
Tems, clearly taken aback yet amused, exclaimed, "You don’t know who Celine Dion is? Oh my gosh. Oh my gosh."
A tweet capturing Saka's reaction went viral, showing his bewilderment at not recognizing the singer, accompanied by laughter from fans.
Given that Saka was born in 2001, it’s understandable that he may be more acquainted with contemporary genres like Afrobeats, hip-hop, and R&B;, frequently listening to artists such as Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Drake. He also expressed his fondness for Tems’ music, acknowledging that music is a vital aspect of his life and a source of inspiration.
Celine Dion, the celebrated Canadian artist, is renowned for iconic songs like "My Heart Will Go On" and "Because You Loved Me," largely dominating the global music scene in the 1990s and early 2000s—years during which Saka was not yet born. With over 200 million records sold globally, she remains one of the most successful artists in the history of music.
