Two individuals have tragically lost their lives, while eight others were injured during an assault by Boko Haram insurgents in Geidam town, the administrative center of Geidam Local Government Area in Yobe State.
The attackers invaded the area around 8 PM on Monday, targeting a vigilante outpost located at Fanfon Nuri, which is near a small market in Geidam.
Sources from the community informed Daily Trust that the militants eliminated a member of the vigilante group and a civilian, while eight more individuals suffered various injuries.
"They concealed their vehicles in the bush, allowing them to enter the town unnoticed. When they launched the assault, the focus was the vigilante outpost. One vigilante was killed on the spot, along with a civilian who was shopping at the Fanfon Nuri market," stated a local resident who preferred to remain anonymous.
According to an alternative source, the civilian death was not directly caused by the insurgents but rather occurred during the ensuing chaos following the gunfire.
Attempts to contact the Assistant Director of the Public Relations Unit for Operation Hadin Kai, Sector 2 in Damaturu, were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
