The Delta State Police Command has firmly rejected as untrue, allegations suggesting that a suspect passed away while detained at the Ekpan Police Station, characterizing the report as deceptive and without factual basis. The Command indicated that the publication appears to be an effort to discredit their ongoing work in combating criminal activities within the state.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the authorities asserted that no individual has died in police custody in Ekpan or any other location within Delta State, directly contradicting the circulating claims.
The police elaborated that the operation referenced in the misleading report was a joint effort conducted on March 25th and 26th, 2026, targeting areas known for criminal hideouts.
This extensive exercise, overseen by the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Operations, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, focused on curbing criminal activities in the Ughelli and Warri regions.
According to the police, the operation resulted in the apprehension of more than 270 individuals, including suspected drug dealers and notorious cult members, with a significant quantity of illegal substances also seized.
The Command further stated that all apprehended individuals underwent thorough screening. Those found to have no involvement were released, while others remain in lawful custody under appropriate conditions.
The police department reiterated that there were no fatalities recorded throughout the entire operation.
Describing the report as irresponsible journalism, the Command issued a caution against spreading such misinformation, noting that it could mislead the public, erode confidence in law enforcement agencies, and hinder the important work being done to ensure security.
While recognizing the value of public engagement, the police urged individuals and groups to refrain from using activism or online platforms to disseminate false information. They warned that offenders would be investigated and prosecuted according to the provisions of the law.
The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the Command's unwavering dedication to safeguarding lives and properties, assuring the state's residents that efforts to maintain peace and security would continue unabated.
The public is advised to disregard the erroneous report and to seek information from official police sources for accurate and verified updates.
