A Magistrate Court located in Nomansland, within the Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State, has ruled for the detention of a driver and two accomplices linked to the alleged theft of jewelry, cash, and a mobile phone owned by the wife of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
The accused, identified as Sulaiman Yakubu Kulkude, Idris Musa, and Abdullahi Usaini, are facing a three-count indictment that includes conspiracy, theft, and possession of stolen goods.
During the court proceedings, prosecuting attorney Barrister Abubakar Ibrahim informed the court that Sulaiman Yakubu, who is employed as the driver of the Emir’s wife, unlawfully accessed her bedroom and took jewelry estimated at N60 million, along with cash and a mobile device.
Upon the reading of the charges, Sulaiman entered a guilty plea, whereas the other two defendants pleaded not guilty.
In response to the situation, Barrister A.A. Abdullahi, representing the defendants, submitted a request for bail.
The presiding Magistrate, Halilu Abdurahman, considered the bail application and granted bail to each defendant, contingent upon meeting specific requirements. These include securing a surety who must be a direct relative, such as a father or brother, a civil servant with a minimum rank of Grade Level 15, and a bail amount of N10 million each.
The court has adjourned the case to April 14 for additional hearings, while the defendants will remain in custody until their bail conditions are satisfied.
