The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) announced on Tuesday that it has successfully concluded an agreement with Customs Licensed Cargo Agents conducting operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) regarding cargo port charges.

According to a press release from FAAN, the meeting aimed to discuss the proposed new cargo port charges and was overseen by the Director of Cargo Development and Services, Lekan Thomas.

As a result of the discussions, both parties agreed to set a cargo charge of N15 per kilogram. This figure represents a middle ground between the previously suggested N20 per kilogram and the current rate of N7 per kilogram.

FAAN stated that this agreement came after constructive talks between the airport's management and cargo operators. The outcome is expected to improve the business environment at Lagos airport while promoting sustainable development of airport and cargo infrastructure.

FAAN expressed gratitude towards the Customs Licensed Cargo Agents for their cooperation in this process, emphasizing the importance of ongoing collaboration to advance the country's air cargo sector.

Furthermore, the authority reiterated its commitment to continuous engagement with stakeholders and its principles of Safety, Efficiency, Development, and Innovation (SEDI), alongside efforts to modernize cargo terminal facilities.
