Four suspects have reportedly been taken into custody by the police in Abuja for allegedly using the name of Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to defraud a military officer of the sum of N150 million.

This information was shared in a statement by Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, on Wednesday in Abuja.

Olayinka confirmed that one of these suspects, residing at No. 3 Martin Elegoma Street in the Nigeria Army Post Housing Estate, Phase 1, Kurudu, was arrested on Tuesday.

He further mentioned that this suspect is accused of defrauding a retired Major General A.K. Ibrahim among others, with the amount claimed to be over N150 million. This sum was supposedly required for a transaction concerning a land deal in Guzape II Cadastral Zone, Abuja.

Olayinka elaborated that the suspect deceived the victims into believing that he was associated with the FCT Minister and the Director Land in the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

It is alleged that the suspect fraudulently received over N150 million with promises to provide land documents pertaining to Plot 1985 in Guzape II, which spans three hectares, as well as other plots.

During the interrogation, the suspect identified two accomplices who are associated with the Urban and Regional Planning Department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCDA).

Additionally, another accomplice residing at No. 2 Chief Palace Road, Durumi 2, Abuja was also recognized by the suspect.

Olayinka concluded by stating that all four suspects are currently being investigated for their involvement in this fraudulent scheme.
