Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, has resumed his inspection tour of key infrastructure projects within the state shortly after President Bola Tinubu's recent engagement aimed at resolving the ongoing political discord between him and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

During his inspection, Governor Fubara reiterated his administration's dedication to finishing the 50.15-kilometre Port Harcourt dual carriage Ring Road, assuring citizens that the project would be completed by October 2026.

He credited the vision for the significant infrastructure project to his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, calling him the brain behind the Ring Road initiative.

"This project holds great significance for me, especially given the visionary person who initiated it, my Oga, the Honourable Minister. He harboured immense ambition and believed that if this project is completed on time, the people of Rivers will be pleased with my leadership," Fubara stated. He emphasized that regardless of political tensions, he remains focused on ensuring the project's completion.

"Despite the circumstances, it is my desire and duty to realize this vision. This underscores the priority we place on the project as a government and community," he continued.

Fubara noted that the Ring Road was originally slated for completion within 36 months, and progress is being made towards that schedule. The site inspection commenced at Refinery Junction in Eleme and traversed locations including Iriebe and sections of Obio/Akpor, concluding at the river-crossing bridge that connects essential segments of the roadway.

The governor stated, "From all indications, substantial progress has been recorded. After our discussions, contractors have assured us that the project will reach completion by October." He expressed confidence that continuous funding and administrative support would facilitate meeting the October 2026 deadline.

The Ring Road project, which began in July 2023, encompasses a length of 50.15 kilometres, featuring five flyovers and a river-crossing bridge. It is strategically designed to link more than six local government areas and alleviate traffic congestion within Port Harcourt and its neighboring areas.
