The Ilorin Emirate has declared its intention to achieve a voter registration target of one million individuals in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

This objective has been established to underscore the Emirate's voting capacity, particularly in light of discussions concerning voter demographics across Kwara State's three senatorial districts.

While the Ilorin Emirate, encompassing Ilorin West, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, and Asa Local Government Areas, currently holds the most substantial voting bloc in Kwara State, political dynamics and interests from other senatorial districts are reshaping the landscape leading up to the 2027 polls.

The Political Advisory Council of the Emirate disclosed this plan during a media briefing, stating that the decision followed a review of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise and the definition of the Emirate's broader political direction.

Yakub Yahaya Oloriegbe, the National Coordinator of the council, indicated that the goal would involve augmenting the existing voter base of over 700,000 in Kwara Central with at least 300,000 new registrants.

"We are confident that our collective efforts will substantially enhance our voter numbers to an average of one million registered voters, especially with the third phase of the registration process commencing shortly," Oloriegbe stated.

He further explained that intensified mobilisation efforts are underway across various communities, engaging traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth organizations, artisans, transporters, and market associations to foster increased participation.

The council is also collaborating with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to bolster voter education and public awareness campaigns.
