John Terry, a former Chelsea captain, has come forward to criticize Arsenal for over-celebrating their recent victory in the League Cup semi-final against his former club. Following Arsenal's win at Emirates Stadium, which ended with a 1-0 scoreline and a 4-2 aggregate result, Terry felt the jubilant celebrations were excessive.

The match secured Arsenal's place in the final set for March 22, where they will compete against Manchester City, a repeat of the 2018 final. This marks Arsenal's first appearance in a final since 2020, when they triumphed over Chelsea in the FA Cup, as well as their first League Cup final since 2018, presenting an opportunity for them to clinch the trophy for the first time since 1993.

Under the management of Mikel Arteta, Arsenal has not achieved a trophy since the FA Cup victory during the COVID pandemic, although they have come close in the Premier League on three occasions. Terry suggested that the enthusiasm shown by Arsenal during their celebration was indicative of the mounting pressure they currently face.

In his comments on TikTok, the five-time Premier League champion remarked, “I want to discuss Arsenal’s celebrations after... let’s not forget, it’s the Carabao Cup, it’s not the Champions League final.”

He continued, “The level of celebration seemed excessive to me, which reflects the pressure they are under.” Despite acknowledging that Arsenal is performing well in the Premier League and has the best squad, he reiterated that the nature of their win should not warrant such exuberance since it is merely for the Carabao Cup.

Terry stressed the importance of the competition, noting, “Yes, it’s the first trophy they could potentially win, which is significant, but it highlights the state of the Arsenal team right now.” He empathized with Arsenal fans, suggesting there is a lingering anxiety about the potential to falter.

In addressing the strategies used by Chelsea under manager Liam Rosenior, Terry expressed disappointment in their passive gameplay. He stated, “I believe that in both matches against Arsenal this year, we have outperformed them.”

He observed, “I’ve never felt intimidated by Arsenal, regardless of the competition.” According to Terry, if it were the Champions League semi-final, a different, more cautious approach would be appropriate.

Terry concluded by asserting that Chelsea had no reason for trepidation heading into the Carabao Cup match, highlighting that the pressure, in fact, lay with Arsenal, which he believes was exacerbated by their complacent home performance leading up to the match.
