The Joint Task Force (JTF) South East Operation UDO KA has restored peace to the Orsu Local Government Area in Imo State by driving out armed groups, encouraging displaced citizens to come back to their homes.

Lieutenant Colonel Jude Abuo, Garrison Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade based in Obinze, Owerri, shared this information with journalists while on a media tour of the areas that have recently been secured from insurgents in Orsu, Imo, on Tuesday.

According to Colonel Abuo, this operation, which began on February 2, involved personnel from the Nigerian Army, Air Force, Deep Blue security forces, police, and civil defense groups, supported by community vigilantes.

He indicated that the mission aligns with the Chief of Army Staff's strategic vision to evolve the Nigerian Army into a more adaptable and professionally capable force, equipped to effectively carry out its duties in a joint operation and in varied operational circumstances.

Abuo further noted that the aim of the operation is to eliminate the influence of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and its militant faction from the area.

"We have successfully pushed these elements out, gained significant ground, and deactivated Improvised Explosive Devices that they had utilized as force multipliers," he explained.

"We can confidently assure you that this local government will be free from IPOB forces in the upcoming days, and we urge residents to return to their homes without fear," he stated, adding that no personnel were lost during this operation.

The media tour's intent was to counter claims that previously circulated images of the operation were misleadingly represented as having originated from other locations.

Abuo asserted the authenticity of the images, which he claimed accurately reflect the current activities in the region.

Chika Obuladike, President-General of Orsu Ihietukwa clan, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian military for their intervention and called for expanded operations to secure other vulnerable areas.

Ezeani Ikedinekpere, the Youth Leader from Orsu Ihietukwa, promised ongoing partnership with the military to enhance their efforts in guaranteeing safety and security.
