Authorities from the Kano State Police Command have arrested a suspect believed to be responsible for the distribution of audio and video recordings containing statements that may incite public unrest and intolerance among community members.
Commissioner of Police CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori announced the arrest in a statement on Thursday, March 5, 2026, detailing that the suspect was captured during a covert operation and is presently under investigation.
According to the Commissioner, the content in question has been widely disseminated on various social media platforms and was deemed a potential threat to peace in the state.
"The Kano State Police Command has come across reports regarding the circulation of audio and video clips containing statements that could provoke public disorder and induce fear among residents," the statement indicated.
"In a swift sting operation, the Command successfully arrested the suspect, who is now facing interrogation.
"We want to emphasize that the Command takes such inflammatory statements very seriously, and the suspect will be subjected to the full extent of the law following the investigation.
"We categorically condemn the creation and spread of inflammatory materials and urge individuals involved to immediately stop their activities.
"Anyone found disseminating false information will be apprehended, investigated, and faced with legal action accordingly.
"The Command will not tolerate any acts of hate speech, incitement, or violence.
"Additionally, robust security measures have been enacted to avert any disruption of peace and ensure the safety of all residents.
"The Command is collaborating with other security bodies to keep the situation under surveillance and respond swiftly to any disturbances, reassuring the public that there is no reason for concern.
