Delivering the judgment on Monday, January 26, 2026, Justice Funsho Lawal stated that the prosecution had successfully demonstrated its case with sufficient evidence on a four-count charge that included conspiracy, armed robbery, kidnapping, and rape.

The court learned that on June 15, 2025, the convicts assaulted the victims at their farm located in Kangile village near the Kulende area of Ilorin. During the incident, they robbed the couple of their possessions and kidnapped Mrs. Morenikeji, demanding a ransom of N5 million.

Justice Lawal remarked that the victims were restrained throughout the ordeal, and one of the convicts, Tijani Usman, sexually assaulted Mrs. Morenikeji.

In rendering the sentence, the judge emphasized that the decision was made based on the compelling evidence presented during the trial, leading to the conclusion that the convicts deserved the ultimate punishment under the law.
