A commanding officer and several soldiers lost their lives as Boko Haram militants launched an assault on a military camp located in Kukawa Local Government Area, Borno State, in the early hours of Monday, March 9.
Reports from DailyTrust indicate that the terrorists struck the military base around 12:30 AM.
According to a source, "They (terrorists) stormed the town from multiple directions and launched an attack on the military camp."
Another military source revealed that the insurgents forced the soldiers out of the camp, set vehicles on fire, and made off with ammunition.
One of the security personnel expressed sadness, stating, "I cannot say much about the casualties but it’s very sad that we also lost the CO (commanding officer) here."
This incident follows a previous attack last month, where the troops successfully defended the military base against a Boko Haram assault, resulting in heavy losses for the insurgents. The commanding officer's leadership during that engagement was praised by the local community and celebrated widely on social media.
