Senator Nenadi Usman has made history as the first woman to hold the position of National Chairman in Nigeria's political party system, having commenced her duties at the Labour Party (LP) National Secretariat located in Abuja.

Upon a visit early this morning, it was observed that the secretariat presented a refreshed appearance.

The former national chairman, Julius Abure's billboards and banners, which once adorned the landscape, have been removed. They have been replaced by sizable images of Senator Usman, indicating a significant transition in leadership following a recent court ruling that validated her position.

Supporters and party loyalists were gathered at the secretariat, eagerly awaiting updates as activities began to return to normalcy. The environment, although tranquil, buzzed with a sense of anticipation regarding what many are calling a pivotal moment for the party.

Senator Usman's return follows the court's decision addressing the prolonged leadership struggle within the Labour Party, thereby enabling her to assume full control of the organization's affairs.

Meanwhile, the Abure faction of the party has expressed intentions to appeal the ruling.

The Labour Party has faced the challenge of losing approximately 21 lawmakers within the span of the last year, which has stemmed from the intense conflict between Senator Usman's interim committee and the faction led by Barrister Julius Abure.

In a further blow to the party, its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, officially announced his departure from the Labour Party to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on December 31 last year.
