The Northern Nigeria Minorities Group (NNMG) has lauded the federal government for its endorsement of the Renewed Hope Development Plan (2026–2030), deeming it a pivotal step in Nigeria's economic and institutional advancement.
Approved by the National Economic Council (NEC) and led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, this framework aims to succeed the 2021–2025 plan and positions Nigeria on the path toward achieving a $1 trillion economy by the year 2030.
In a statement released to PREMIUM TIMES by its Convener, Jacob Edi, on Tuesday, the NNMG indicated that the plan showcases a unified policy approach that prioritizes economic reforms, infrastructure development, job creation, human capital enhancement, and food security.
"These priorities are not mere theoretical concepts; they directly address the real challenges faced by communities in Northern Nigeria, where poverty, unemployment, and inadequate public services are ongoing issues," the group stated.
The group further noted its approval of the plan's emphasis on private-sector- led growth strategies, which cover critical sectors such as energy, agriculture, manufacturing, digital services, and housing. They highlighted the importance of these sectors in driving productivity, attracting investments, and enhancing long-term competitiveness.
Additionally, NNMG appreciated the inclusive process of the plan's formulation, which engaged federal, state, and local governments, as well as civil society and the private sector, reinforcing its alignment with democratic principles.
They pointed out key elements of the 2026 Growth Acceleration and Investment Mobilisation Strategy (GAIMS), which aims for a GDP growth rate of 5.5%. The initiatives also include strategies for revenue optimization via the RevOps platform, development budgeting at the ward level, and the digitization of national examinations.
"Plans alone cannot change a nation; execution does," NNMG asserted, appealing for transparency, discipline, and measurable success, particularly in underprivileged and neglected regions.
The group affirmed its readiness to collaborate with the government and civil society to ensure that the Renewed Hope Agenda produces significant outcomes.
