Operatives from the Ogun State Police Command have successfully freed five students from Gateway Polytechnic Sapade following a confrontation involving gunfire with suspected kidnappers. The students had been abducted on Monday at approximately 10:55 PM in the Sapade vicinity.
DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), stated on Wednesday that the Ipara Division was alerted to the incident and promptly dispatched a patrol team. Upon arrival at the scene, the team discovered an abandoned ash-coloured Toyota vehicle.
According to Babaseyi, the vehicle bore visible bullet marks and traces of blood, and personal effects belonging to the victims were found inside. An identity card recovered from the car confirmed the abducted individuals were students of Gateway Polytechnic.
This discovery led to an immediate elevation of the case and the initiation of a comprehensive rescue mission. The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, directed the deployment of specialized tactical units to conduct an intelligence-driven operation aimed at securing the safe release of the students.
"The students were recovered from their captors and received necessary debriefing. They were also taken for medical evaluation to address injuries sustained during their captivity," Babaseyi reported.
He further mentioned that the kidnappers engaged the police in a shootout but were ultimately subdued by superior firepower. The suspects were forced to flee, reportedly sustaining gunshot wounds.
