Tetairoa McMillan, a wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers, has expressed regret after using a racial slur during a livestream event on Thursday, February 5. The incident took place while McMillan was competing in "The Streamer Bowl," a charity esports tournament, during a game of Madden.
He shared his apology via Instagram, stating, "I sincerely apologize for speaking thoughtlessly and will do better." He further remarked in another statement, "There’s no excuse for what I said."
The inappropriate language emerged in a moment of excitement after McMillan intercepted a pass while co-hosting the stream alongside fellow content creators YonnaJay and Tamir. The video quickly spread across social media platforms, accumulating millions of views and drawing significant criticism.
This incident coincides with McMillan’s nomination for the NFL Honors ceremony, where he is in contention for the Offensive Rookie of the Year award. In his inaugural season, he tallied 75 receptions, 1,095 yards, and seven touchdowns while playing for the University of Arizona.
As of now, the Carolina Panthers organization has yet to comment on the situation.
