In an effort to de-escalate tensions in Jos, the capital of Plateau State, representatives from Muslim and Christian communities in Gangare and Shaka have met to reinforce peace and stability.

The inter-community dialogue occurred on Thursday when members of the Gangare Muslim community visited the Shaka community, which is predominantly Christian. Their visit was to express gratitude to Shaka's leaders for intervening and saving the life of a Muslim scavenger who was allegedly targeted by angry youths.

Representatives from Muslim and Christian communities in Plateau State meet to discuss peace.

According to the Muslim delegation, the leaders and youths of the Shaka community were instrumental in ensuring the safety of the Muslim scavenger and his safe return to his community.

During the visit, Ibrahim Kabir, a leader from the Muslim community, stated, "The reason for this visit is to convey our appreciation to the leadership of the Shaka community for rescuing a member of our community. The community's leaders demonstrated wisdom in protecting the boy and returning him safely. I recall that in our own Gangare community, some Christian women were also protected. Leaders from Gangare went to a junction, a potential flashpoint, to prevent aggressive youths from attacking Christians. We urge others to follow this example," Kabir urged.

Responding, the traditional ruler of the Shaka community, Da John Rwang Gyang, remarked, "We are all descendants of Adam and Eve. If we grasp this truth, we are united. They visited us to thank us for rescuing one of their own, who was assaulted by unidentified individuals. With the support of community leaders and youths, we managed to save him.

"We welcome their visit. This land is a gift from God, and we do not wish for anyone's blood to be shed here. We desire an absence of conflict in our surroundings. No religious doctrine advocates for the killing of individuals from different faiths. Coexistence is a positive value," he added.

Both community leaders emphasized the importance of peace and urged young people to maintain composure and adhere to the law.
