Dickson Chollom, who represents Barkin Ladi Constituency in the Plateau State House of Assembly, has strongly objected to the continued use of the phrase "unknown gunmen" when referring to recent violent incidents.
Chollom, who also heads the House Committee on Works and Transport, made these remarks during a visit to Heipang District within Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. The visit followed an attack that resulted in three fatalities and one person sustaining critical injuries.
He announced that a suspect has been apprehended and has provided confessional statements implicating others involved in the recent attack.
"We will no longer accept the term 'unknown gunmen'. One of the perpetrators has been arrested and he has made confessions about those who joined him in carrying out this heinous attack," Chollom stated.
The lawmaker emphasized that the situation should not be treated as a common occurrence, asserting that the residents of Barkin Ladi and Plateau State deserve both clarity and justice.
Chollom urged security agencies to publicly share the details of their investigation, including the identities of the suspects and where they are being held, to assure the public that efforts towards justice are genuine and progressing.
