Professor Buba Garegy Bajoga, a prominent academic and esteemed engineer, has passed away at the age of 88 in the United Kingdom.

His death occurred yesterday, marking the end of a remarkable life dedicated to education and engineering.

Prof. Bajoga was a highly regarded educator whose career in academia spanned over several decades.

He completed his B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, in 1968, followed by a PhD from the State University of New York in 1972.

Bajoga climbed the academic ladder at ABU until he became a Professor of Electrical Engineering in 1984.

He significantly contributed to the development of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi, playing a key role in its transition to an autonomous institution.

Serving as Vice-Chancellor of ATBU from 1984 to 1994, he also held the position of Chairman for the Committee of Vice-Chancellors.

Beyond his academic achievements, Prof. Bajoga made influential contributions to Nigeria's telecommunications and engineering sectors.

He held several notable positions, including as Director and Managing Director at Nigerian Telecommunications Limited (NITEL), and worked with the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). His efforts were vital in shaping policies and governance within the sector.

In a tribute, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya lauded Prof. Bajoga as an internationally recognized academic who dedicated his life to education, public service, and national advancement, describing him as an exemplary citizen of Gombe State.

Governor Yahaya noted the significant impact of Bajoga’s work, especially during his tenure as Chairman of the Committee on Tertiary Institutions in 2020, where his committee's findings contributed to the ongoing reform of higher education in the state.

“Prof. Bajoga was a person of remarkable intellect, integrity, and devoted to national service. His insights and patriotism enhanced our efforts to revamp and improve tertiary education in Gombe State,” the governor stated.

He emphasized that Prof. Bajoga would be remembered for his humility, discipline, and commitment to education and national development.

The governor extended his condolences to the family of the deceased, the academic community, and all who were impacted by his exemplary life and contributions.

He prayed for Allah’s mercy upon him and for his good deeds to be rewarded with Aljannatul Firdaus.
