Datti Baba-Ahmed, who was the Vice-Presidential candidate for the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, has suggested that any effort to unseat President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general elections requires a determination for serious confrontation rather than depending on the judicial system.
In a recent interview, Baba-Ahmed reflected on the challenges faced in the previous election cycle. He had previously cautioned Peter Obi, the LP's presidential nominee from 2023, that the judiciary would be ineffective in addressing what he termed as significant "violations of the constitution" committed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) during that electoral process.
He conveyed this in strong terms, stating to Obi: "The Supreme Court cannot appoint you as governor and hand you the presidency. For heaven's sake, you must take action. The Nigerian Constitution was undeniably violated—Section 134(2b) states things plainly. In historical contexts, had there been a breach, even if it involved a mere punctuation mark, there would be widespread outcry and immediate action.
Baba-Ahmed recognized the efforts made by certain groups in Nigeria, acknowledging that while he may not support their endeavors, they are diligent in pursuing their interests. They have the ability to organize protests and sustain their movements over extended periods. He expressed disappointment with the current mindset of relying on legal proceedings instead of proactive measures.
"To defeat Tinubu, one must adopt a fierce approach," he asserted. "You need to exhibit your fierce determination; on the day results are announced, it's the individuals declaring false results who are the offenders, while those challenging those proclamations are simply acting as responsible citizens. Those looking to take down Tinubu must show fierce resolve—court action is not the solution,” he stated emphatically.
