A US F-35 Lightning II fighter jet has reportedly been struck by suspected Iranian fire, necessitating an emergency landing at an American military base in the Middle East, as per reports from US media outlets.

Captain Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for the United States Central Command, acknowledged that an incident involving the aircraft took place, although he refrained from verifying reports that it was hit by Iranian fire. He stated, "The aircraft landed safely, and the pilot is in stable condition," adding that, "This incident is under investigation."

Media sources, including ABC and CNN, have indicated that the jet might have incurred damage during operations associated with the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States, and Israel.

Since the start of the conflict, the US military has experienced losses of multiple aircraft, including three F-15 jets that were accidentally downed by Kuwaiti forces and a KC-135 refueling aircraft that crashed in Iraq. However, none of these incidents had previously been confirmed as a result of Iranian fire.

These developments arise amid an escalated air campaign initiated by both the United States and Israel against Iran, following a significant military build- up in the area, which has involved the deployment of advanced fighter jets such as the F-35.

Since operations commenced on February 28, 13 US service members have lost their lives, which includes six fatalities in the KC-135 crash and seven who were victims of Iranian assaults in the early stages of the conflict.

Moreover, the US military has reported that roughly 200 personnel have sustained injuries across seven countries in the Middle East, though the majority have since returned to active service. This incident adds to the rising anxieties regarding the magnitude and intensity of the conflict, as exchanges of strikes between both sides continue across the region.
