Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, has rejected allegations of multiple factions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), insisting that the party is unified.
Wike made these remarks in Abuja on Wednesday while speaking to the press after examining several ongoing projects in the FCT.
He noted that discontent is a common occurrence in any political context, stating, "that is not unusual."
The Minister further disclosed that talks regarding reconciliation are in progress, particularly with the upcoming PDP National Convention scheduled for March 29 and 30.
Wike clarified that the conduction of the convention does not preclude the reconciliation efforts, emphasizing that discussions may continue even after the event.
"Just because there is a convention, it does not imply that reconciliation will not take place. The convention will proceed; everything has its appropriate timing."
In addressing inquiries about outreach from different groups, he stated, "I am not aware of any separate camps. There is only one PDP. Hence, it would be inappropriate for me to say there is another faction."
Regarding the existence of any factions, Wike expressed, "I do not acknowledge any other camps. To my knowledge, there is only one PDP, and it would be incorrect to indicate otherwise."
He also remarked on the timelines for party activities, indicating that primaries are to be held from April 23 to May 13, as aligned with the Electoral Act and the Independent National Electoral Commission's covering guidelines.
"This schedule allows very little room for delays," he concluded.
