Woman Sentenced to Seven Years for N5.6 Million Fraud

A Kano State High Court has sentenced Ebonine Rita Uzoamaka to seven years imprisonment for fraudulently obtaining N5.6 million. She misled her victim by promising to supply 500 cartons of baking powder, which she failed to deliver.

Ebonine Rita Uzoamaka has been sentenced to a seven-year prison term by a high court in Kano State for defrauding a victim of N5.6 million.

Uzoamaka was apprehended after she deceived her victim by claiming she could provide 500 cartons of D-Rich Baking Powder sourced from Aba in Abia State.

The prosecution established that after receiving the payment, she breached the supply agreement and misappropriated the funds for personal expenses.

She faced multiple counts of financial misconduct, contravening Section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act 2006, which is punishable under Section 1(3) of the same law. Uzoamaka had initially pleaded not guilty, which led to a full trial.

During the trial, the prosecution's legal representative, Salihu Sani, presented four witnesses along with various documents that were accepted as evidence by the court.

In her defense, Uzoamaka testified as the only witness.

After reviewing the case, Justice Sabo delivered the verdict, convicting Uzoamaka and imposing a seven-year prison sentence. The judge additionally provided an option for a fine of N500,000.
