Wrexham AFC, the Welsh football club co-owned by Ryan Reynolds, has reported a financial loss of about £15 million for the year ending in June 2025 as it committed substantial funds to its promotion to the EFL Championship.
The club's financial documentation reveals an operating loss of £14.84 million, attributed to increased expenditures related to both player and staff salaries essential for their aggressive promotion efforts. In spite of the losses, Wrexham is now free of debt, thanks to new investment sources, which include support from minority stakeholders, Apollo Sports Capital.
Since being taken over by Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, Wrexham has impressively advanced from the National League to the Championship within three seasons, marking a remarkable ascent in English football. Furthermore, the club showcased significant financial progress, with turnover increasing from £26.72 million in 2024 to £33.33 million in 2025, representing a 24 percent growth.
Officials credited this surge in turnover to the club's growing global recognition, facilitated by on-field achievements, commercial endeavors, and international visibility, notably driven by the documentary series 'Welcome to Wrexham.'
The financial report indicated, "The Club's global standing is continually enhanced through a blend of sporting success, media presence, and the strategic management of its ownership appeal."
While the documentary itself does not directly generate income, it has been instrumental in bolstering the club's branding and commercial attractiveness. Matchday revenue has seen improvements, partly due to the addition of a temporary stand at the Kop End of the Racecourse Ground.
Plans are in progress for further stadium expansion, with a proposed new Kop Stand that could elevate capacity beyond 18,000, pending approval. On the field, Wrexham remains in contention for promotion, currently just outside the playoff spots, with several matches left, preserving the possibility of a fourth consecutive promotion.
