A cameraman employed by Channels Television, Kani Ben, has died due to spinal injuries he incurred in a tragic road accident in Bauchi State.
Ben passed away early Sunday morning at around 4:00 a.m. at the Modular Theatre Complex of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBU-TH), where he had been receiving medical care.
He was among a group of 13 media professionals involved in the collision while covering the commissioning of projects initiated by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in the region.
The accident took place on Friday, 6 February 2026, along the Yashi–Yelwan Duguri Road in the Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
This incident occurred shortly after a delegation, headed by the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Uba Maigari Ahmadu, inaugurated and handed over a Government Secondary School in Yelwan Duguri.
Witnesses reported that the vehicle transporting the journalists attempted to pass a convoy, leading to it veering off the road and rolling multiple times, ejecting passengers from the vehicle.
Ben, who was seated at the front of the vehicle, sustained grave spinal injuries. He underwent surgery the day after the incident but ultimately passed away while undergoing treatment.
He is survived by his wife and two children.
