China has indicated its intention to bolster communication with the United States across all levels, while also maintaining firm adherence to its "red lines" and national interests, as preparations are underway for a possible leaders’ summit later this month.

During a press briefing on Wednesday, prior to the annual session of the National People’s Congress, spokesperson Lou Qinjian stated that Beijing remains open to dialogue despite the escalating geopolitical and trade tensions.

"China is willing to collaborate with the United States to foster communication on all fronts while upholding its ‘red lines’ and guiding principles," Lou announced.

These comments come as both Washington and Beijing seek to mend their strained bilateral relationship ahead of an anticipated meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping scheduled for the end of March in Beijing.

The already troubled relationship between these two powers has been further exacerbated by various global security crises, which include the January capture of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro during a raid in Caracas and the conflict between the U.S. and Israel against Iran that led to the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. China regards both Venezuela and Iran as long- standing oil suppliers and strategic allies.

Reiterating Beijing's position regarding the ongoing Middle East tensions, Lou urged for an immediate ceasefire and respect for the sovereignty of Iran.

"No nation has the right to dominate international affairs, dictate the destinies of other nations, or monopolise developmental advantages, especially acting unilaterally on the global stage," he remarked.

Lou emphasized the necessity for mutual respect and peaceful coexistence between China and the United States, urging the U.S. Congress to adopt an objective view towards China and pursue actions that may enhance bilateral relations.

However, he clearly stated that Beijing is committed to defending its core interests.

"China has its own principles and red lines, and will steadfastly defend its sovereignty, security, and developmental interests," he added.

A U.S. official has confirmed that President Trump is poised to visit China from March 31 to April 2, although there has not been an official announcement from Beijing regarding this trip.

In addition, senior trade negotiators from both countries are set to convene in Paris next week to discuss possible business agreements related to the forthcoming leaders’ summit.
