A bride has shared her heartache following the absence of over half of her expected wedding guests during the ceremony.
To compound the situation, the couple incurred a financial loss of ₦22,000 after covering expenses for what they anticipated would be a joyful event with all 88 confirmed guests.
Gray Narvaez-Dragion, a 19-year-old who identifies with they/them pronouns, turned to TikTok to express their sorrow.
In an emotional video that quickly garnered more than eight million views, the distraught newlywed revealed, "88 people confirmed... yet fewer than 40 actually came."
The brief clip highlighted an almost deserted venue, showcasing rows of empty tables that were set up for guests who did not arrive.
Gray, who comes from Iowa and posts under the username @grayanxiety, along with their partner Nyx, received overwhelming sympathy from viewers expressing outrage. They shared, "We canceled our sparkler send-off, private dance, and dinner... the reception was cut short. I have been in tears for hours over this."
They went on to post additional videos showing the RSVPs they had previously received and their reaction to the disappointing turn of events.
One particularly poignant video featured Gray with tear-streaked makeup alongside the caption: "We literally sat in the empty ceremony room together and cried."
Another heartbreaking message recounted, "I put so much effort into making this enjoyable for everyone. I created magnets and soap gifts for all... and now I have so much leftover. Nyx and I stayed up until 2:30 AM trying to make the day special for everyone."
They added, "Most of my expenses went on items for the guests... and almost nobody came. The sight of the unused magnets is heartbreaking... I can't even bear to look at the custom soap samples because it just makes me cry too. Why didn’t they come? I dedicated so much time to trying to include everyone."
They also mentioned that the DJ felt sorry for them and suggested they use the photo booth they hadn’t utilized, where they ended up taking pictures together.
The significant costs incurred have left the couple in a tough financial situation.
Gray expressed their distress, stating, "I'm struggling to buy my own meals after getting fired and with so few guests attending. I am devastated."
In light of their misfortune, many sympathetic followers have offered to purchase wedding gifts for the couple to make up for the ones they did not receive.
